Our first site-seeing stop in Rome was the Vatican.
| Natalie waiting to get into the Vatican. The thing around her neck is a "Whisper" system which we frequently wore to be able to hear our tour guide without having to stand right next to him.
| There are many interesting things in the Vatican museum other than the Sistine Chapel. This statue of a goddess of fertililty caught my eye for some reason. :)

The ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, of which photographs are strictly forbidden. I had to be sneaky while taking this one.
| Right after I took this photo, one of the guards came over and made me put my camera in my bag and then told me in broken English that he would keep his eyes on me.

No one can escape the winged skeleton bearing the sands of time.
| The Vatican guards (actually they are from the Swiss military) look like clowns.

The Cathedral and Tower in Pisa.
| The Leaning Tower of Pisa. They are allowing people inside again! When I was there six years ago, they had a huge stack of weights on the obtuse side of the tower, trying to prevent its fall, and entry was prohibited. At the time, they even had the area under the tower (where it might fall) cordoned off so no one would be crushed if it came down. Apparently, engineers have reinforced the soil under the tower so that it is no longer at risk of toppling.
